The beginning…

A spread from a really old botany book that was so old it was yellowing, getting mouldy and falling apart.

Digital working
In the digital part of the process working files can quickly accumulate 100’s and 100’s of layers.
Paper preparation and set up
This part is complicated and getting everything just right is crucial.
It is NOT as simple as just putting some paper in a printer and pressing print.
I have to deal with rogue air bubbles, tape and registration issues for each print.
PROBLEMS… oh so many… just a few examples…
Glitches.

Pulling stunts…
Sometimes it takes all kinds of measures to get things just right
—even if it means fixing your deckled edges with a rusty hacksaw.
…Or attacking your prints with a spray bottle and burnishing tools.
More detailed hand-work
Working back in by hand at the end of the process is risky
-one wrong move and I have to start over.
MORE PROBLEMS
Gold leaf splodges and paint leakage.
Trying to figure out titles
